Won’t be available for order until October in China and Europe. The US will have to wait. No performance model listed yet, but they’re working on it.Won't be available for order until October.
Just wondering if you have pushed the roller to activate voice control and just ask the car to put on the wipers? If I remember automotive lore correctly, push button shifters were considered problematic because they were error-prone.
I haven't driven a stalkless Tesla yet, but this could be a dealbreaker for me.
(I'll test drive one to be sure before I make any big moves.)
my Model Y is missing several important controls on the stalks (like windshield wipers and headlights), and the quick access on the touch screen isn't so quick.
Enough little stuff like this could easily add up to a deal breaker -- especially in a post-2025 auto market, where Ford's Project T3 will be competing with the Cybertruck in a NACS-world.

I think they’re talking about haptic buttons on the rear view mirror as well, in case the screen goes out and you can’t switch gears.Gear shift is AI plus screen. Likely to be a real PITA.
This is not a PEBKAC problem.Just wondering if you have pushed the roller to activate voice control and just ask the car to put on the wipers?

There are a couple videos that show the alternate gear selection and hazard lights on a small panel above the rear view mirror. Supposedly only shows up when needed.I think they’re talking about haptic buttons on the rear view mirror as well, in case the screen goes out and you can’t switch gears.
Selling accessories that allow us to add physical buttons and stalks is a great idea. Tesla can make money on selling the parts, and we can personalize our cars exactly like we want them. This is not a PEBKAC problem.
Activating the wipers isn't the problem.
These problems interact:
I'm a big fan of my MYLR, and it's still the best car on earth for me at the moment, but that has more to do with it's EVness than its Teslaness.
- Enabling cruise control ("autopilot") enables auto-wipers. Auto wipers always seem to be enabled.
- Getting the auto-wipers to stop in situations where running the wipers generates self-inflicted streaks -- which causes the wipers to run faster, thereby making the problem worse.
- Voice controls requires offboard cloud processing, and so aren't reliable in places with lousy cell coverage -- like the parking lot at my office. It's a lot more annoying than the wiper switch in my other vehicles.
- Pushing and holding the left scroll wheel and setting that to control the windshield wipers is technically another solution, but it's also a lot more annoying than the wiper switch in my other vehicles.
Here are some accessories Tesla could sell me:
Note that FSD and Acceleration Boost are NOT on that list -- they're both an objectively poor value at their current price-points.
- Stalks with standard automotive parts-bin switches for windshield wipers and headlights that are fully supported by the embedded aoftware in the car.
- A rear hatch with a Prius-style split real windshield and a rear wiper.
- Matrix headlights. That's a genuine upgrade.
- Working door-seals (I need to get the driver's door seal replace for a 2nd time).
My criticism is coming from a place of being a huge fan of my Model Y. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned, but these self-inflicted usability problems need to be fixed ASAP.
Tesla has about 18 months left of being the only 1st-tier EV-maker in the market, and so they're going to need to understand and fix their self-inflicted usability problems to face the more-competitive market they'll be facing in Model Year 2025.
Yes there are apparently haptic buttons on the roof. Being haptic they will still be unusable without looking, and that position is awkward, so not a real replacement for the stalk.I think they’re talking about haptic buttons on the rear view mirror as well, in case the screen goes out and you can’t switch gears.
This is
The new model 3 has a second gear shifter up top. Guessing cybertruck will be the same.
Yeah, Elon is hellbent on making FSD a reality. Even if that means removing everything from the car before they achieve it!Yes there are apparently haptic buttons on the roof. The number of vehicle/years I've had fog lights (1972-present): 135 Vehicle YearsNo more fog lights, it seems : (
You should never be using them without the car being not in motion.Yes there are apparently haptic buttons on the roof. Being haptic they will still be unusable without looking, and that position is awkward, so not a real replacement for the stalk.
To get out of thick snow, doing forward/back moves while not stopping is The Way.You should never be using them without the car being not in motion.

PS, I live where I hit thick fog pretty frequently. So thick that dew constantly builds up on my visor and tank or windshield and car.
Fog lights were pretty useful in the 80s. Today with HID LED lights? Not really. I can barely tell when I turn on the fog lights, but mostly, they do nothing. And they don't really help with fog.
I think someone mentioned this earlier. I imagine having a forward/backward motion built into the software to help you get out of snow, mud, etc. can be added and tweaked pretty easily. To get out of thick snow, doing forward/back moves while not stopping is The Way.
I too have had almost no use for front fog lights. Rear ones are essential though (and a legal requirement here).
