Tesla contains a lot of talent that is outshined by Elon Musk. (We are more to blame assigning all success to Elon Musk) The company would retain a path to greatness but, I agree there will be short term turbulence if the unforeseen occurred.
There is a reason the world's top talent coalesced around Elon Musk companies. They didn't go there because he paid twice the going rate.

Give the man some credit for assembling so many world-class teams that are working hard on global problems. Even the best talent in the world depends upon great leadership to be effective.

Fair or not, the lives of the weathly and aristocratic garner more attention than of the common folk.
Elon's wealth is not what would raise the stakes with trying to take him out, it's that he's a national security asset. Without SpaceX, the US has no other way to get astronauts back from the Space Station (as just one example of many).

I do give Elon Musk credit. None of Tesla, SpaceX or others would exist without him and his vision. The point I am making is we tend to assign all credit to the figurehead. Elon is still instrumental.

Elon Musk also created a living company and has the obligation to ensure smooth succession if he ever wishes to step down in the future or he wins the lottery.

I am a fan of Elon Musk’s business and visionary acumen. I don’t necessarily agree with all his opinions.

Edit
I forgot to mention the most important, I am a fan of Tesla’s stock opportunities.

I don't think he plays the lottery...or needs to. ;)

But I also don't think he's really "obligated" to ensure smooth succession.

However, in saying all of that, it's a sign of a good leader to make yourself redundant.

So I believe that in every step of the way he will be mostly leaning on his management team for the small things, and taking lead on the big things himself, like buying twitter or making sure targets are met.

And this is where his "leadership" role becomes critical for maintaining progress. He could well be "irreplaceable" in that any likeminded person of the same caliber would already be running his own company, so why would they swap to Tesla or SpaceX etc? His best hope for continuity would be to mentor one of his kids, or someone young with the capacity to grow using his dataset. Who else could spend enough time with him to learn and replicate his ways, and build on that to be better?

I hope Elon lives to be 100 and runs Tesla etc. forever.

That's said, Steve Jobs was the visionary behind Apple, but the stock is up 700% under Tim Cook. If you build a great institution, it will outlive you.
