This just appeared on the EPA’s web site.
https://insideevs.com/news/573132/new-tesla-modely-version-emerges/
Actually 2 new models, an SR version which apparently has a 62kWh pack, and a new Model Y AWD without the “LR” appended. The SR version is a bit of an efficiency champ.
Not clear if it’s a new LFP based Model Y, or a new 4680 based Model Y with fewer cells, or ?????
Super curious to see if this is coming out of Austin or Fremont. I suspect if they release a Model Y SR for $5000 less than the current shipping Model Y LR it will sell like hotcakes. Lots of existing buyers will try to jump ship so hopefully they will get first dibs.
If this is a new Model Y with the 4680 cells, it will likely have much faster charging. Faster charging would make up for the range loss while road tripping. So this could be just as capable as the current Model Y, but with a much smaller pack.
There has been a couple other Model Y pricing developments recently which might relate to this.
* Model Y with FSD is shipping in 2 months, without FSD is 6+ months out.
* Model Y Pricing just got *another* $1000 bump.
