What does the finishing of Bolt recall have to do with freeing up capacity to make new GM models (Hummer, Lyriq) that use Ultium battery? The battery cells are made at different battery factories, use different chemistries and different architectures.
.....

If nothing else.

GM can continue making Bolts. They retrofitted 140,000 in 6 months so they have capacity for quite a few.
....

Oooh Oh. Looks like GM has not retrofitted 140,000 Chevrolet Bolt battery packs in 6 months. By end of March, GM had really retrofitted less than 40%.

Estimate for period ending 2022 March (reported to U.S. NHTSA on April 22)

built years 2017 To 2019, retrofitted 47% of 57,414 units
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/RCLQRT-21V560-6381.PDF

built years 2020 To 2022, retrofitted 1.3% of 52,414 units
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/RCLQRT-21V650-2776.PDF

Some are estimating at least another 12 months for completion.

The two U.S. NHTSA reports seems to be short 30,000 units. Do not know why total units is 110K instead of 140K.

62% Of 2017 To 2019 Chevrolet Bolts Have Had Their Battery Replaced The information comes from an NHTSA document that shows replacement rates among newer Bolts are far lower, though.

The article is incorrect. Should be: 47% of available 2017-19 Bolts have had their batteries changed. The numbers are cumulative, not per quarter.

Here's the latest reports for the battery replacement remedy:

RCLQRT-21V560-6381.PDF (nhtsa.gov) 47% ( 26,925 of 57,414 units for years 2017-2019 )
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/RCLQRT-21V560-6381.PDF

RCLQRT-21V650-2776.PDF (nhtsa.gov) 1% ( 661 of 52,414 units for years 2020-2022 ) https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/RCLQRT-21V650-2776.PDF

AdrianC, I took the data from the links you gave me and generated the chart below. They have done a lot of buybacks that I believe are still included in the population.
So if they keep the Q1 rate it will take a little over 1 1/2 years to finish the replacements,

@firsttruck

That actually makes more sense to me. I wish I remembered where I’d seen that they were done.

I looked but could not find where GM said the recall was complete.

I would like to know who said it was complete. If you find something would you please direct message me on this forum. thanks

It was probably me!

And I know I didn’t fabricate the number, I just can’t recall where I’d heard it. I dug around on this thread but didn’t see it. Perhaps someone made an assumption based on the fact that they are starting new deliveries?
