I think someone mentioned this earlier. I imagine having a forward/backward motion built into the software to help you get out of snow, mud, etc. can be added and tweaked pretty easily.
Maybe suggest it on X/Twitter. Elon responds well to good suggestions like this.

To be brutally honest, I don't think that is at all easy to do with software and I very much doubt it will appear in the near future. Overall people are loading too many expectations on FSD. Those who have followed Tesla longer know the reality is we are a long way from fully autonomous Teslas. Besides, why? We had a good, reliable solution for direction selection that helped with this and many other cases. I like driving, so I would appreciate if a car doesn't get in the way of that enjoyment.

I wonder if even the steering wheel buttons will work with gloves, or are they capacitive? That would be a further nuisance.

Well, why are you wearing work gloves in the cabin?

Well, to see what the experience would be like, we went to test a Model S without the stalks and with a yoke. Thankfully the yoke is no longer default on anything, as it's a terrible design. OK if you drive on big and relatively straight roads, but around tighter bends, roundabouts, doing 3 point turns ... it's just not great (I know everyone was saying the pessimists were just being 'boomers', but seems like they were right as Tesla is no longer itself on board with that). On a Model S you have the minor point of being able to see the dashboard screen better, and it's somewhat comfortable to rest hands on top of the bits at the end, but it makes tight manoeuvres so much more awkward that I don't think it's worth it, particularly on a vehicle without a dashboard screen.

I was assuming the direction change was going to be the worst part of the experience, and it definitely sucked to swipe the screen, but the SO was seemingly more OK with that than I imagined. It was still inferior to having a stalk, but it was a bit less annoying than imagined. Then again we didn't get a chance to drive in tight spots very much and the couple 3 point turns I had to do were still a nuisance with it (as expected, the AI didn't guess the direction correctly).

The indicators, on the other hand, were really terrible without a stalk. Again, fine if all you do is drive on relatively big, straight roads. But tight bends and roundabouts ... ouch. The buttons become utterly nightmarish with the wheel at all kinds of angles or even upside down. Even a shallower turning can be a problem as I at least shuffle my hands to avoid having to keep my arms at awkward and unsafe angles. Several times we just didn't indicate at all because it was going to be dangerous finding the buttons in time. This is a really bad design and shame on Tesla for pushing this when otherwise the new Model 3 seems like a nice update. Or maybe it's one of those usual Tesla design follies: "Not a problem in California!".

I also couldn't understand why the physical RNDP buttons aren't always illuminated, and why they don't have small ridges. I mean they're there anyway, so why not have them marked so you could use them instead of the screen?

I think Juniper is still a year away. They just announced some MY mods to get part of the way there. Kinda like a partial refresh in the meantime.
