I can finally buy M&M's and Skittles again. My OCD always made me sort them first. Optimus will be a huge time saver!

All Joking aside, this is really cool.
Optimus can take all the "W"s in your M&Ms and turn them back to "M"s!

Okay, sweet. It caught up to my toddler. Now the race is on! Can I train a human or can Tesla train an AI faster?

Bring it Elon
Once Tesla trains its toddler, Tesla can just update all of the toddlers. No more starting from scratch.

Think the 2016 Boston Robot is light years ahead. It can do full functioning complex yeast and parkour. In 2023does not compared with just moving blocks while stationary stand?!

Boston has been doing this for over a two decades.

optimus is what, three years old? and the quickness of of reorienting objects in realtime is pretty amazing.

This is truly amazing that Optimus actually can turn those W's into M's. Without writing lines of code to make it happen. All the advances that have to be in place the turn the W to an M are here with neural net training. Simultaneously trained instead of sequentially and the dexterity it has to have to do this.

I know nothing about robots, computers or neural nets but from what I have read it seems Boston D is doing by writing code to get the output.

What Optimus is doing is completely different. It is sorting those items on its own. It see visually and the neural nets drives the output real time much like we see and act.

Yeah, not even 3 years. Introduced they were working on a Tesla Bot August 2021 at AI day. The first working prototype walked out on stage on AI day on September 2022, so 1 year.

Agreed. Tesla is a the master of marketing however.

Oh T,

To equate this to what Boston is doing is apples and orangutans. Boston has a Barrett .50, and Tesla has a potential F-22. How they do what they do is the impressive part. Boston can't do ANYTHING is wasn't programmed to do. Optimus can see something different, and figure out how to deal with it. If they were both door kickers, and gunfire broke out, Optimus would see everyone else hit the deck or get behind cover, and do the same thing. Boston would just stand there, because it was never programmed to react to the sounds of the bang.

And if they ever did program Boston for that, then every time a car backfired, Boston would act like it had severe PTSD and run for cover. Optimus wouldn't.

Don't look at what it does, look deeper at HOW it does it, and WHY it does it. That is the true beauty of the new system.

Ok, Ok, So maybe Tesla should team up with Boston on their robot and throw the AI in, as the Boston bot is far more superior physically! Optimus cant do anything or even walk without a tether in its rear attached to Dojo.
Well, you are bringing up the bigger picture. Much like NACS, and soon FSD. there will be billions made licensing their, what I assume will be one day, AGI to other company's. Nobody has this ability to navigate the real world end to end as Tesla can. First cars then robots.

I'll tell you what. When BOTH products are available for purchase, and NOT in development, and you feel that there is some issue with their intended audience/customer, then we can throw all the complaints out there and try to understand why they did what they did. Until then, unless you have some direct intel on where they are in development and what exactly that cable is for (ummmm, power?) we are just spinning our wheels.

And people wonder why Tesla won't let out more specs on the CT... ?‍♂

Wow, that’s all we do here is speculate on leaks and ideas. Hmmm?!
Ok, if you're speculating, then speculate away. But when you make definitive statements, that doesn't come across as speculation. Statements like "the Boston bot is far more superior physically!" doesn't sound like a speculation. Or "Optimus cant do anything or even walk without a tether in its rear attached to Dojo." still doesn't sound like speculation. Whether you intended it this way or not, it does come across as a pretty definite statement.

Let me try this...

I don't think Boston will be able to keep up with Optimus once they get another 6 months to a year further along with the AI programming. I heard EM say that they are designing every single actuator from scratch, so I hope that doesn't slow down the physical development. I wonder how long before Optimus carries its own power supply with it? Always tethered to something isn't inspiring.

Boston Dynamics is an amazing company and I worked with them while in the military and we configured their robot dog with sensors for chemical warfare detection, as well as adding a radiological survey meter and isotope detection.

The advantage Tesla has over Boston Dynamics is integrating their robust FSD, they use for vehicles, into Optimus. Also, Boston Dynamics don't have Dojo on their side.

Still a remarkable company, nonetheless.

SpaceX has a BD dog named Zeus. Even has his own doghouse.
