We had EVs since the early 1900s and a few people went to the moon in the 60s (if you believe they actually did).
That is incorrect. A few people went to the moon regardless of whether you believe it or not.

It's a fact that people landed on the moon and the proofs are numerous and varied. It's just like it's a fact that EV's are more sustainable than ICE.

I've seen pretty good evidence that the moon landing could have been faked. It even seems kind of likely, it's almost too good. My theory? They hired Stanley Kubrick to direct it, look at all his other work. It's good, convincing. And knowing what a stickler Kubrick is for details, I would bet he filmed it on site.

85.5% of new and 36.8% of used cars are financed.
https://capitalcounselor.com/car-loan-statistics/

I've no idea how I'll be paying for my Cybertruck. I set aside my "Cybertruck Fund" into a brokerage account in 2019, but it's now in the red. In a downturn, you should invest more, not liquidate.

However, interest rates are also going up. Hmmph.
I have two related rules about investing in the market:

Never invest money you can't afford to lose and never invest money you can reasonably expect to need in the next two years.

That means you need to sell two years before any large planned purchases unless the market is in the crapper. Then you can wait it out and hope it recovers in time. This has never failed to prevent me from being forced to sell during a downturn. If you look at the modern history of the stock market you will see that bear markets tend to be surprisingly short. The "two year" rule will save you from all but the most persistent bear markets.

Now I have lost all respect for your ability to analyze anything and everything. The evidence we made multiple trips to the moon is irrefutable and the least of it is the direct first-hand accounts of the dozen or so humans who have walked on the moon. You could throw away all the video evidence and the other evidence is still irrefutable. You can buy a laser on eBay that is powerful enough to reflect off the laser reflector the astronauts placed on the moon's surface for sub-cm accuracy when measuring the precise distance between the earth and moon.

Multiple countries have indepently verified that the rock samples brought back from the moon are of lunar origen (this includes Russia who would love to rub it in our face that we lied). How do you explain that Russia never called out the US when the stunning mission was completed even though they intercepted all the space radio communication during the mission, remember, this was the middle of the cold war.

Respect, once lost, is a difficult thing to regain because it has to be earned. I'm deeply saddened that such things get posted here.

That's pretty much limited to the true 1%, pretty much everyone agrees you need to finance cars. And I maintain that you SHOULD in most cases. Or at least, historically. One of our cars is financed by choice, because it was cheap, but still smart to finance. Almost nobody is alleging that it's not necessary.
I grew up poor/middle class, never having any money beyond what I could earn with my own two hands. I didn't buy a new car until I had saved up over a million dollars with no debt and I bought the new car with cash. Every new car since then was bought with cash. Before that I had reliable motorcycles, and then cars, but they were far from new. I maintained them myself to save more money. Buying a new car is a lot more fun when you don't need a loan and it doesn't trigger car payments.

People who bought a new Tesla in the last 4 years have made out like bandits. Not only did they save all that money they would have spent on gas, but their used Tesla is also not worth that much less than they paid for it. Tesla have had much lower depreciation than gas cars (and even than other EV's).

Car loans need to take into account depreciation, but they have to guess at that. EV's with low durability have high depreciation and Tesla got lumped in with all the other EV's so people taking Tesla loans never really benefited from a projected low depreciation rate. Likewise, ICE cars right now can be expected to have very high depreciation as EV production ramps up. But I doubt the lenders are taking that into account (other than perhaps bundling all their ICE car loans and selling them off to unsuspecting investors).

Ha! I just thought you meant he didn't film it indoors in a studio moon set, but actually went to the Nevada/Arizona desert (or wherever the moon conspiracy lunatics claim it was filmed).

Nope, he faked it for NASA right on site. I'm sure of it. Looks way too good for amateur flyboys to be doing their own directing and filmwork!

Up next, I can explain why the jet fuel can melt steel beams. It's because the planes were full of chemtrail material, and who knows how hot that shit burns!

I'm always up for trolling conspiracy nuts.

How come no one talks about the electric F-150 reveal in 2008? It took 14 years for them to finally release one. And, of course, you can't even order one now! If not for the Cybertruck reveal, the Lightning would still be in waiting mode. Ford thinks they pulled a fast one by adapting their ICE truck to an electric powertrain before the Cybertuck is sold, but that's not even competition once the Cybertruck hits the streets next year.

So many morons. EVs aren't the answer to all of life's problems, but also, 95% of the "information" against them is made up billshit.

This week it's been: How are you going to charge your EV when a hurricane takes the power out? As if gas stations still work with no power. BUT! Solar still works! Where are you going to get gas for your car if there's no power? Also, everyone with a brain charged their EV to 100% at home. Where you able to fuel up at home before it hit?

Idiots.
I had almost this EXACT conversation a couple of weeks ago with a fellow EV owner!

We own three vehicles for now. A Model Y, a MINI Cooper S Electric, and a gas-powered Toyota Tacoma.

I initially told him we have two electric vehicles - the Y and the MINI. Before I could mention the truck I want to replace with a CT, he jumped in and told me I was brave for going all-in on EVs and not having a gas car as a backup in case the grid goes down.

I had to pause for a second here because... what?

My retort was that gas pumps also don't work when the power is out.

He's honestly a very smart man - I've worked with him a bit. That still took him back a step.

The thing is that, in general, the US grid is very reliable and folks rarely consider whether the pumps are working or there is gas available. There's something about the newness of EVs that has them considering things that impact all vehicles, but mentally only associating those problems with the new technology.

Same goes for the clown who asked what he was going to do for the "other 22 1/2 minutes" after I told him our longest road-trip charge was 25 minutes. People misperceive their current condition because they're used to it. I bet that on an annual basis, we spend far less time at charging stations than he does gas stations with his 30+ gallon tank.

I certainly do. So much less that I've noticed the lack of gas stops. Planning one around having to use a bathroom, wanting an iced tea, maybe even a snack. But now, no excuse to stop, I have to think about the actual thing I want.

I used to think that a road trip fuel stop was five minutes. I've learned that it's at least ten if I'm pushing and solo. With passengers? Holy cow, at least 15, but once as much as 40 (daughter in law looks at everything inside, even though it's just another convenience store). Most of my SC sessions are 12-17 minutes, so no actual penalty.

I absolutely agree! The latter dude's comment implying he spends 2.5 minutes at each stop just illustrates a complete lack of self-awareness more than any real inconvenience. At most that would be a quick top-off stop with no restroom break and not at all a road-trip stop.

But people are going to use whatever excuses they can to justify their own wrong opinions.

I will sometimes point out that I don't have stand there next to the car, either. I can plug in and go have lunch if I want. It's the smallest of "big deals."
