Financial advisors and stock brokers are working because they need a job.
They are there for people who are too lazy to figure out the basics of investing themselves. I feel like everyone should learn at least enough to do their own basic investing, but lots of people neglect it and want to just toss money at someone who will do it for them.

I find it pretty ridiculous how much more time people spend thinking about taxes and saving a few bucks on their taxes than their retirement.

Recommendations from many advisors are often more oriented towards asset protection than growth. People are a lot more forgiving of mediocre results than they are of losses.

A couple simple things I learned from the Motley Fool a long time ago:
  • If you love a product and all your friends love it… it’s probably a good investment.
  • The best investments are often the ones “experts” say are over-valued.
    • AAPL
    • AMZN
    • GOOG
    • TSLA
    • etc etc…
So if you listen to financial advisors “Experts” you are guaranteed to miss the best investments.

PS: THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE!

PPS: Also… the above were all great stocks at one time. Some are great still. Do your own investigation.

I want to know, why did nobody tell me to invest in Chipotle in 2018?
I was subscribed to one of The Motley Fools newsletters when Chipotle had their big scare and the newsletter did recommend it. They suggested it was a transitory thing.

I think it wound up being a bad call as it went down a lot more later and took quite a while to recover.

Wait… are you saying you have a lot of shares? Or a very low paying job?

:)
Should I put up a poll?
1. I have a lot of shares
2. I have very little shares
3. I have a low paying job
4. I have a high paying job
5. 1 & 3
6. 1 & 4
7. 2 & 3
8. 2 & 4
9. I lied

I don’t know why anyone would share this information on a public forum.

I feel like sharing the fact that I own a non-zero amount is over share, but I’ve posted about it enough that that is clear.
Thanks for participating.

I don’t even share this kind of detail with friends let alone strangers on the web.

Consider for a moment, would you ask a stranger:
  • What is your total net worth?
  • What are your retirement accounts worth?
Your profile says you used to work as an LEO. This is the digital equivalent of opening your wallet and flashing hundred dollar bills in a bad neighborhood.

Not that this forum is a bad place… it’s just that the entire internet is an open book to bad people.

I knew a law enforcement officer who put his ssn on his checks. I, a lowly pizza delivery driver, told him that was unsafe. He told me if he had his identity stolen, he'd know who to look for.

He didn't know who I was; while I knew his license, vins, address, phone numbers, and birthday. All he had about me was I sold him a pizza... but a different driver had been assigned it that night and I'd taken it because they hadn't gotten back from their run.

9-9

My net worth is pretty much public record. None of those other things are.
