I called this last week, so long California. If you read the statement from the Governor’s office, they double down on everything that’s running businesses out of there in the first place.
...Political, also completely incorrect. Do you ever notice these people complaining never actually have specifics? It's always handwave 'politics' or 'taxes' without looking at any of the statistics that go along with these?

I think the bigger problem is having a population center to draw on for staffing.

The transportation problem is there too For certain.

They'll probably have the same problem any other big engineering firm has trying to move from California:

Austin is nice to visit, but who wants to live there?

Well, alot, but they'll end up keeping a huge part of their engineers in California. The ones good at math and who know how to manage their time.

The ones who don't, well, they live in the Central Valley, and well, Austin is an improvement. As long as you don't miss mountains and nice roads to drive on.

So Tesla joins Oracle, Hewlett Packard, Charles Schwab, Toyota (North America HQ), CBRE, McKesson, Saleen, Trend Micro, and hundreds of other California companies moving to Texas.

Someone tell Apple to turn off the lights if they ever decide to leave CA.

Yes, HP and Trend Micro are dead companies, Toyota wasn't able to move their engineers, Oracle and Saleen haven't moved (Saleen is still reeling from losing its Chinese venture), CBRE and Charles Schwab aren't real companies so move their post box all the time, McKessen wasn't a California company to begin with... Nor did they close their SF office.

Anyone who says 'hundreds of companies are moving' is either misinformed or misleading. We export jobs all the time. It comes with having leading GDP growth consistently.

Is that because theres less to burn or wetter climate?
Oh, those central Texas hills burn. Most are covered in salt cedars which, once ignited, burn like gasoline. The city folks moving to the country neglect to trim the underbrush back from their homes, so there are occasional conflagrations.

The biggest choke point in Austin is Interstate 35. It's pretty much landlocked, preventing adding more lanes. Texas tollway 130 (85 mph speed limit!) is adjacent to Giga Austin and it gets you off I-35 if you are coming from the north or south. Expect big growth in San Marcos, Round Rock, and Bastrop.

Adding a lane to an interstate doesn't necessarily add capacity. Best way to do that is to create alternatives and take stuff off the freeway that can travel by rail or bus or whatever.
