Sure, you exist, so there 'are people', Setok.

Doesn't make you right. An independent drive selector is pointless on an automated EV. The selector doesn't need to be used while moving, shouldn't be used while moving, and would be very expensive to make display the mode with its physical presence. So the physical control should go away.

Ferraris have physical and easy to use drive selectors. That’s what matters (not whether it’s a stalk or not).
Having physical selector buttons or switches isn’t inherently better. People put cars into the wrong gear with todays tech.
Some people are better with change than others.
Selector switches, buttons, stalks, etc are just another thing to fail or break.
Software can be changed at any time to improve the function, look, or feel.
I stand by my statement.

Well, no one has found it to be such. You can install third party if you need to.

I don't get the fascination with have a go/no-go/go-back stick anyhow when the car pretty much knows which to be in already.

I have rented the model 3 twice. In June of this year and currently on this trip. I’m not that familiar with the screen but, it works for my wife and me. I drive, she does the screen. All of that is because we are not familiar. I’m sure once one owns for awhile and is familiar with the screen it would be different.

what I am trying to say is on this trip I started understanding the stalk people. The people that don’t understand I will give a better example. Not using the stock is easy like juggling is easy, well it looks easy to the person who isn’t juggling. Trying to learn to juggle while driving is not a very good idea. What the stock gives me is the ability to drive with minimal knowledge. Push, drive.

how did I do?

No shift lever will suck big time off-road in the CT.

You can't rock yourself out of a bog, or use short run ups over obstacles. Quick turn around for reorientation on a climb. Simply: no inertia no climb. Traction control or AI can't compete with that. Anyone who claims any different knows nothing about off reading, and should stay in park on their freeway.

Will be my first mod if there's no fast access to cycle between D and R.

The new model 3 has a second gear shifter up top. Guessing cybertruck will be the same.
Those look like haptic controls, so unfortunately will not help solve the main problem of not having a stalk (or similar).

I assure you, I am far from alone. I can also assure you that Teslas are very far from being fully automated.

A selector doesn’t need to show anything (the old Model 3 one doesn’t), though admittedly it would be more tactile usable if it remained in a position to indicate mode. I find it funny you call it very expensive when literally every single other car out there has a physical control for direction. There are many cases when it is extremely useful. Off-roading was mentioned. I mentioned things like parallel parking or 3 point turns. But I’ll throw in driving in thick snow, where it’s often necessary to move forwards and back, sometimes even rock while the vehicle is in motion (if it is stuck).

But from your tone I’m guessing you don’t drive offroad, you don’t tow, you never have to edge your way into tight spaces, and you live in California or Texas. So basically you have limited use for a pickup?

software update could add this forward reverse rocking function with the scroll wheel on the steering wheel. That’s the cool thing with these vehicles. They can be updated!

I, too, wonder why people get all wrapped up about the stalks. Let's look at this objectively. On the road today are cars with physical stalks that are manual shifters (old trucks). Then there are floor or hump mounted manual shifters. Then there are column mounted automatics. Then there are floor or hump mounted automatics. There are cars where "P" is the forward most position. Cars where the "P" is a button on the shifter. Calumn mounted stalks where "P" is at the top. Column mounted where "P" is a button. Manual shifters where "R" is all the way right and down, or all the way right and up, or all the way left and up, or all the way left and down. There are very few constants. And yet, some people still don't look and drive into walls and garage doors and other cars.

But the point is, everyone adapts. If this is your daily driver, you'll have it knocked in a few days of driving and never look back. If it's not your daily driver, you'll do what you do whenever you drive a car that's different than your daily driver. I get the off road implications, but again, you will adapt.

There are very few things that are "Standard" on all cars. Damn Skippy, we can't even agree on what side of the freakin road to drive on! High beam switches used to be on the floor boards. Some cars have "dead pedals", and some don't. Some have the wipers here and some have them there. Some have the key on the right side of the dash, som on the column, some on the left side. some have the lights on a stalk, some on the right side of the dash, some n the left. Sometimes the gas cap is on the right, sometimes on the left, sometimes behind the license plate, sometimes it's up in front of the door. And still, people adapt. And once you adapt, it feels weird to do it any other way.

Relax, you're probably smarter than you are giving yourself credit for...

When l was 12 l began learning the keyboard of the Piano Accordion along with the 120 bass keys!
At 16 we had typing classes.....36 words a minute touch typing was good enough to give me the highest result.
I'll start to practice on the CYBRTRK 'Wheel' .....even if l build a wooden 'buck' to 'wrap' my flying fingers & 4head around!
'RAP SPEED

For me, it's that uptick in the hood...

Nah! I'm just kidding. It's the range increase.

* competition that's coming *? Eventually one of the ICE manufacturers will get it and shut down their ICE development work to focus all their R&D brains on BEVs. The others will follow suit, sooner or later. Sometime during that transition Tesla may find it impossible to beat all the competition. It will be interesting to me to watch this drama.

I know one thing. If I was a young man, about to inherit a big, family owned chain of gas stations I'd be working on plans to either sell them fast or convert them into EV friendly "Recharge Stops", knowing that my highest profit margins are on food, snacks and (sadly) beer.
