Only a tiny percentage of U.S. population own full electric EVs.

The rest of the population is being told GM is the leader in EVs.

When some of that population needs a new car or truck and goes to GM brand dealerships and the sales people there tell them this spiffy electric hybrid is the best, the prospective buyer is liable to trust the info since it is common knowledge that GM is World LEADER in EVs because "IT Matters".
