I wouldn't be surprised if it was done as a joke, to highlight all the crooked streets and sidewalks in Hollister. The town of Hollister is built on the Calaveras Fault. All over town, there is really cool evidence of the ground shifting over the years. It moves in a constant creep, up to 1/2 an inch per year.
