Elon live-Tweets his stream-of-consciousness, thus producing a significant percentage of nonsense. He is frequently derided for such comments, sometimes deservedly so.

Within all of that noise, his well-intentioned actions are overlooked or even criticized as pointless or selfish. As a counter-argument to that negativity, someone on Twitter created a long thread detailing Elon's generosity and selflessness.

I've compiled her thread into the list below.

1/ XPRIZE.
Elon donated $100 million to fund a carbon removal competition with the goal of fighting climate change while also rebalancing our planet’s carbon cycle.
Here's the latest on that:
https://t.co/6hpkuEo9bv

2/ Flint Water Crisis & Flint Schools.
The Musk Foundation gave $424,000 for a project to help seventh and eighth-grade students. In addition to that, The Musk Foundation gave another $480,000 for water filtration.
https://t.co/xKcMDgH6g7

3/ Flint Water Crisis & Flint Schools cont.
It was just announced this year that students at Flint Schools will be able to drink clean water from the water fountains thanks to Elon's donations.

4/ Flint Water Crisis & Flint Schools cont.
“This means a lot. Water should not be something that we have to pay for — water is a necessity of life. It should not be something we have to fight for.”
https://t.co/IRJeE9OPiC

5/ St. Jude’s Children’s Research.
Elon Musk donated $50 million to St. Jude’s Children’s Research but altogether the Inspiration4 launch raised a total of $243 million for the cancer research hospital.
https://t.co/nUWNJvQ606

6/ Feeding Texas
The Musk Foundation donated $1 million to Feeding Texas according to the Dallas Morning News. Feeding Texas operates over 20 food banks across the state and feeds more than 5 million Texans annually.
https://t.co/7OF6R5uvlQ

7/ Helping The Homeless In Brownsville, TX
The Musk Foundation donated $200,000 to The Good Neighbor Settlement, a soup kitchen in Brownsville, TX to help fund their expansion.

8/ Helping the Homeless in Brownsville, TX cont
The money went to set up a new dining hall, kitchen, and new closet where homeless residents can get access to clothing, hygiene items, and even a clinic.
https://t.co/ruxEiLekkC

9/ Unicef & Giga Connect
Giga Connect is an initiative aimed at connecting the world’s schools to the internet. Unicef is partnering with the United Nations’ ITU to ensure that every student has access to information and the internet.

10/ Unicef & Giga Connect cont
The initiative was born as a solution to the problem caused by the Covid-19 pandemic that forced schools to close down around the world. Over 91% of students’ education was interrupted

11/ $5M Coronavirus Research
The money went to two Boston researchers who helped create a vaccine and diagnostic tool for the coronavirus.
https://t.co/IL1wXGQZcl

12/ $20Million For Cameron County Schools &$10 Million For The City Of Brownsville, TX.
I recently spoke with @JessicaTetreau about this and she told me that the Musk Foundation has helped her city which was the poorest in the nation in 2013.
https://t.co/l6ba9iHutq

13/ Khan Academy
In January 2021, the Musk Foundation donated $5 million to Khan Academy.
Founder, Salman Khan said that the funds would enable the organization to accelerate all sorts of content for its 120 million users around the world.
https://t.co/WC5RJPNSbo

14/ Hurricane Laura Disaster Relief.
I was not impacted by this storm but SWLA was. After it passed, the mainstream media moved on and ignored the humanitarian crisis.
Many ppl were on Twitter crying for help and trying to raise awareness--myself included.

15/ Hurricane Laura Disaster Relief cont.
The Musk Foundation donated to several of my Louisiana nonprofits that were doing rescue, recovery, and disaster relief work. Tesmanian's @evafox
and I were the only ones that covered it to my knowledge.
https://t.co/riv8kUl1AP

16/ Hurricane Laura Disaster Relief cont.
Here's Eva's article
https://t.co/K7y5G07czm

17/ Hurricane Laura Disaster relief cont.
The charities that Elon and the Musk Foundation donated to were:
-Northshore Foundation
-SWLA Community Foundation and Baton Rouge Area Foundation
-Cajun Navy Relief
-SBP USA

18/ Hurricane Ida & Starlink
I didn't know about this until after my power came back on My area and SELA were all affected by Ida. Thanks to @JaneidyEve for covering this.
https://t.co/0VLYIvzq7M

19/ Helping Severely Underpaid Teachers
The Musk Foundation helps teachers by funding projects through DonorsChoose., a nonprofit funding site that helps US public school teachers get access to learning materials and resources they need.
https://t.co/lBoAs1M97N

22/ Wanting To Solve World Hunger
I'm addressing this because I've seen a lot of misinformation.
Elon said that he would donate $6B to the UN WFP if they give him a detailed plan on how the money would be spent.
Once Elon made that offer, David Beasley said that $6B will NOT solve world hunger and that the headline Elon was replying to was inaccurate.

There were a few reports claiming that the UN WFP came up with a plan and you can see that here.
According to the plan, 42 million people will be helped.
https://t.co/ECpAV6FqZw
It would be great if Elon is helping & he could be. He doesn't advertise his giving. But since we don't know, I think it's wrong to automatically assume that he is not helping.
I've seen a lot of ppl saying "well he didn't keep his word"
What we do know is that he did give almost $6B to charity.
It could have been the UN's WFP or even his own foundation to dispense funds to other charities that he supports.
https://t.co/WNsBGIsVZx

Summary/ Elon Musk is doing a lot of good. It's important to recognize this and I hope this thread will help debunk a lot of the misinformation being put out there.
I'm sure I didn't get everything he's ever donated to or everyone he's helped.
However, to say that Elon Musk doesn't help people is an outright lie.
And for those of you who say "well it's tax-deductible,"
So are your donations to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It's how the system works.
Also for those wondering why I support Elon Musk you can see this tweet which is also my pinned tweet.
He has a good heart and he cares for people. I genuinely don’t understand the hate.

The media avoids covering anything good Elon Musk does unless they think they can cover it in a way that makes Elon/Tesla look bad.

The narritive that Elon and Tesla are not targeted by the media for any reason other than any news with "Tesla" or "Elon" in the headline gets clicks falls apart. If it were that simple the media would cover everything Elon Musk/Tesla, not just things they think can spun in a negative manner.

There are certainly people with agendas that use the media to their advantage, but I believe most organizations act out of self-interest, and stories that are gruesome or salacious attract more attention and views than those that are positive.

I guess that's why I appreciate it when someone takes the time to highlight the upside.

If commercial media is corrupted by commercials, and state media by the state, then have a media that isn't supported by either.

We need a system to promote positive results, and use every negative result as a way to improve. It's good to learn from your mistakes, but many mistakes being presented as "news" we will never subject of, and as such won't improve our situation.

This is a point that EM made recently that many have disregarded offhandedly: negative feedback loops are important. So unblock them and process them to make sure if they contain useful data for positive change, or so you can intentionally dismiss the data, by understanding that it does not apply. Just blocking it means its not available at all for processing, and can cause you to be unaware of an underlying issue at all.

Accordingly there is a fine balance between naysayers and yeasayers that needs to be kept so as to avoid unrecoverable bias. In this case, yet again, media seems to not care about the balance at all.

People are complex. They are capable of great good and bad.

Elon's done alot of good.

Last week, tho? Not so good. Arguing with the mod is bad.

See? Complicated.
