…they hung up on me ?

I am also hung up upon by the Covid Solar rebates. I believe offered by King George Bush from Nigeria. The panic on the person’s voice when I state the call is be recorded for quality assurance makes answering the phone fun.

I also ask from time to time their tax ID number, some hang up, others say they are not obligated to tell. One person told me a four digit tax ID code.

Yes, scam calls are never ending and the intention of the post is letting off steam at your expense.
Thank you, move along, just ravings

The worst for me is the scam texts, emails and websites. Mom and dad got scammed out of a couple hundred bucks with a DirectTV scam a few years ago. Ever since, anytime they get a questionable email, text or message on a website I get a call. Don't get me wrong, I want them to come to me with this stuff. It's just I'm having to deal with at least twice as many scams as the normal person.

About a month ago mom got the following IN A TEXT MESSAGE:

Your browsing history showed visits to unsecured websites. You now have (3) virus on your device. Clean your phone <weblink> ASAP.

Boom! Thanks to my 1337 h4x0r skillz, this thread is now a virus! I've erased your data, and the data of everyone in your contacts! PWNT!!!

P.S. I'm still learning this whole programming thing, so if you could delete all your files, that'd be really helpful. Oh, and send this to all your friends, too, that'd be great

My mum got scammed by one of those makeup/device companies. She was visiting me and was walking down the street in an open air mall by herself. There were about three of those sorts of places. They stand outside and entice people in, they make outlandish promises and manipulate those without the skills or wherewithal to deal with it. She's not used to this kind of exploitive marketing and handed over $1000 via her credit card. My dad would have quickly seen through the BS and told the people to fuck right off, but sadly we lost him to cancer some years ago.

Not much could be done, she willingly bought the scam products.

Buyer beware and all that.

No idea how the people who work there live with themselves.

No limits to the scams out there. Used to own a store with Western Union. Old guy came in needing to send $2500 to Puerto Rico to get his grandson out of jail.
Scammers try to follow Fakebook looking for visitors messages. I intervened and stopped it of course.
Another time someone got a message from UK telling that they have several million dollars bequeathed from a wealthy donor, deceased. Just send them money to pay the lawyers and it's yours. I could not talk them out of this one ... greed was too strong.

Just… don’t ever:

Provide any information to a stranger who calls you on the phone (or a text message, email, or anything…). Credentials are easy to fake, people are good at convincing you they are legit… it’s what they do.

Your nephew/ grandson/ cousin is probably not in jail and they don’t take bail over the phone.

You didn’t win a million dollars.

That Nigerian Prince doesn’t need your help laundering money.

In my mom's defense, the DirectTV scam was pretty good. Her satellite signal went out and she googled the phone number for DirectTV help. The site she found was bogus and gave her THEIR number. She called them and they told her she needed to pay for some updated drivers or some other BS.

My mom was hit by a couple of these scams and managed to escape unscathed. On more than one occasion she’s called me.

These guys are often **Very** good at what they do (and some are terrible and make up for it in volume) and for some time Google was very bad at protecting people from bogus links. (And took money for those links!!)

When my children were very young like 2 years old or so and spoke mostly gibberish that I could rarely understand, I would hand the phone to my child to talk to them. LOL, it made both me and my kid happy. Win-Win. I used this tactic for sales calls, scam calls, pretty much anybody I would normally have hung up on. :ROFLMAO:

This is a new one to me. Shows how deep a hole these assholes will go down. Also shows how much sneakier and well armed with details they are when they come into these conversations.
